Accenture has imposed a monthly spending limit of $29 (around ₹2,700) per employee for using Anthropic’s Claude AI tools, effective October 1. This move follows instances where some employees accumulated AI usage bills exceeding $1,000 (around ₹94,000), prompting the company to revise its licensing policy, according to livemint.com.
The consulting firm communicated the new policy through an internal memo titled “Claude Enterprise Users: Important Updates to Licensing and Usage Costs,” as reported by 404 Media. While most employees are on the General plan with the $29 monthly cap, some have access to Premium plans offering $250 (around ₹23,700) worth of weekly token usage. Employees exceeding the limit must seek additional funding to continue using Claude AI.
This policy change reflects a broader trend among companies aiming to control AI-related expenses amid rising adoption of generative AI tools at work. Accenture’s approach balances cost management with flexibility, allowing continued AI use beyond the limit if approved. The move aligns with similar cost-control measures in the professional services sector as AI integration accelerates.
Accenture’s new AI usage limits took effect on October 1, impacting most of its workforce using Claude Enterprise, according to livemint.com. The company has not banned usage beyond the cap but requires additional approvals for extended access.
