Apple will introduce all-day ambient audio recording capabilities in its new Apple Watch series this year, enabled by the S11 chip, according to the company’s support document published on September 10, 2026. The feature, called “Audio Intelligence,” uses AI to transcribe ambient audio throughout the day, offering users tools like Siri Recap and Live Rewind to help recall conversations and important sounds.
The Audio Intelligence feature includes Siri Recap, which ambiently takes notes on conversations and generates high-level summaries to jog users’ memories. These summaries auto-delete after seven days unless the user chooses to save them. Live Rewind allows users to double-press the Digital Crown to view a text snippet of the last 15 seconds of conversation, with options to ask Siri about the content or save it. The watch also detects significant sounds such as sirens and alarms, enhancing situational awareness.
This launch marks Apple’s entry into the niche AI hardware category focused on persistent audio recording, reviving privacy concerns similar to those raised with Meta-Rayban AI glasses. The continuous recording and potential indefinite storage of saved summaries raise questions about bystander consent and data retention. The feature’s design to auto-delete unsaved data after a week attempts to mitigate some privacy risks, but the implications for ambient audio capture remain significant in the broader AI and wearable tech landscape.
Apple’s new Audio Intelligence feature will be available on the upcoming Apple Watch series powered by the S11 chip, with the support document detailing these capabilities released on September 10, 2026.
