Microsoft launches Nvidia-powered AI PCs with revamped Windows 11

Microsoft unveiled new AI-focused PCs powered by Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip at a San Francisco event during Tech Week.

Microsoft unveiled new AI-focused PCs powered by Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip at a San Francisco event during Tech Week. The Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,600, with a higher-end model beginning at $3,700 and configurations reaching up to $5,900. The top-tier model is already sold out. Additionally, Microsoft introduced the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box workstation priced at $6,000, designed specifically for AI development.

The new devices run a revamped Windows 11 featuring a capability called "Execution Containers" that simplifies sandboxing AI agents. The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box comes preloaded with Microsoft development tools including Visual Studio Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, Windows Subsystem for Linux, and PowerShell 7. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella highlighted the importance of local AI model execution enabled by hardware enhancements such as unified memory and improved cooling systems.

These AI-ready PCs are part of a broader collaboration between Nvidia and Microsoft announced in June, aiming to bring AI and agent-ready capabilities to Windows machines. The RTX Spark chip integrates CPU, GPU, and memory to support on-device AI processing without cloud dependency. This move positions Microsoft alongside other PC makers adopting Nvidia’s chip to enhance AI workloads, reflecting growing demand for local AI computing in professional and developer environments.

The new Surface RTX Spark Dev Box and Surface Laptop Ultra models are available immediately, with the highest-end laptop already out of stock, signaling strong initial demand. Microsoft confirmed that the "Execution Containers" feature will be rolled out to all Windows 11 users, expanding AI agent sandboxing capabilities beyond these new devices.
