Paris-based Syntetica, a startup developing a novel nylon recycling process, has raised $30 million in a Series A funding round led by Bpifrance’s Ecotechnologies fund, the company announced. The round also included investments from fashion brand Lululemon, clothing manufacturer MAS Holdings, SWEN Capital Partners, and Indorama Ventures. Existing investor EQT Ventures, along with family offices of Peugeot and Etam, participated as well.
Founded in 2023, Syntetica previously secured a €4.2 million seed round in 2024. The startup has developed a patented process that recycles both common forms of nylon in a single step, eliminating the need to separate different nylon types before recycling. This innovation addresses a major challenge in nylon recycling, where less than 1% of recyclable clothing is currently remade into textiles, according to a 2024 BCG analysis.
Nylon is widely used in products ranging from clothing and tents to toothbrushes and kitchen utensils. Traditional recycling methods require sorting different nylon types due to their distinct chemical structures, limiting recycling efficiency. Syntetica’s technology aims to improve circularity in the synthetic materials market, which has seen increasing interest from fashion brands and manufacturers seeking sustainable solutions. The involvement of Lululemon and MAS Holdings highlights the growing demand for advanced recycling in the apparel sector.
Syntetica is currently collaborating with brands including Victoria’s Secret and Etam, expanding its commercial footprint. The $30 million funding will support scaling its recycling technology and broadening partnerships. This Series A round marks a significant step for the startup as it aims to transform nylon recycling on a global scale, according to sifted.eu.
