India’s startup ecosystem raised $2.2 billion in funding in the third quarter of 2026, marking a 5% increase from $2.1 billion in the same period last year, according to inc42.com. Despite the rise in total capital, the number of deals declined by 13% to 210 from 240 in Q3 2025, reflecting a more cautious investment approach amid macroeconomic challenges.
The funding growth was driven primarily by four mega deals, each exceeding $100 million, compared to only one such deal in Q3 2025. The median ticket size remained steady at $3 million year-on-year. Notably, two startups, Emergent and Astrotalk, achieved unicorn status during the quarter, a milestone absent in the previous year’s third quarter. The number of active unique investors also dropped 24% to 511 from 676 in Q3 2025.
This selective funding environment contrasts with the weaker Q3 2025, when startups raised $1.7 billion across 205 deals, but remains below the $3.4 billion raised in Q3 2024 and the eight-quarter average of approximately $2.7 billion. Venture capital firms 3one4 Capital, Rainmatter, and IvyCap Ventures led deal volumes with 19, 16, and 15 transactions respectively, underscoring a focus on high-conviction bets amid elevated valuations and economic pressures.
The quarter’s funding data highlights a cautious yet resilient investment climate in India’s startup sector, with the next comprehensive funding report expected in early 2027, which will provide further insights into evolving investor strategies and market dynamics.
