MacKenzie Scott donated about $7 billion in 2025, accounting for one-third of America’s $19.2 billion in megagifts last year, according to data from Giving USA and the Indiana University Lilly Family of Philanthropy shared with Fortune. Her cumulative giving reached $26.2 billion over five years, supporting thousands of organizations focused on housing, diversity, equity, inclusion, and disaster recovery.
The data, released in June, showed Scott’s donations led the U.S. philanthropic landscape in 2025. Other top megadonors included Michael Bloomberg with $4.3 billion, Bill Gates at $3.7 billion, Warren Buffett with $1.34 billion, and Susan and Michael Dell contributing nearly $1 billion. The total philanthropic giving in the U.S. reached $617.2 billion in 2025, a 5.7% increase from the previous year, encompassing donations from individuals, bequests, foundations, and corporations.
This surge in giving reflects broad growth across nearly all categories of recipient organizations, according to Gabe Cooper, vice chair of the Giving USA Foundation and CEO of Virtuous. Scott’s philanthropy stands out for its scale and focus on critical social issues including housing and disaster recovery, positioning her among the most impactful donors in recent history. The 2025 megagifts highlight a robust year for charitable contributions in the U.S. sector.
The report from Giving USA and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy was published Tuesday, confirming the $617.2 billion total philanthropic donations in 2025 and underscoring Scott’s outsized role in that figure.
