MacKenzie Scott donated about $7 billion in 2025, accounting for one-third of the $19.2 billion in megagifts made by donors in the United States that year, according to data from Giving USA and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy shared with Fortune. Scott’s cumulative giving reached $26.2 billion over five years, supporting thousands of organizations focused on housing, diversity, equity and inclusion, disaster recovery, and other causes.
The data, published in a report by Giving USA and IU’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, showed that Scott’s 2025 donations far surpassed those of other major donors such as Michael Bloomberg, who gave $4.3 billion, Bill Gates with $3.7 billion, Warren Buffett at $1.34 billion, and Susan and Michael Dell who donated nearly $1 billion. The report covers philanthropic contributions from individuals, bequests, foundations, and corporations to U.S. charities.
The total philanthropic giving in the U.S. reached $617.2 billion in 2025, marking a 5.7% increase from the previous year. This growth was widespread across almost all categories of recipient organizations, reflecting a positive year for charitable donations. Gabe Cooper, vice chair of the Giving USA Foundation, noted that virtually all types of recipient organizations experienced solid or better growth at the aggregate level.
The Giving USA report was released on June 23, 2026, providing a comprehensive overview of philanthropic trends in the U.S. for 2025, with Scott’s donations standing out as the largest single contribution by any individual donor that year.
