Peak XV Partners has launched the twelfth cohort of its Surge accelerator and incubation program, featuring 18 startups from India, the US, and Southeast Asia. The cohort includes companies across AI, robotics, space, consumer, healthcare, music, and fintech sectors. Seven startups in the cohort hail from India, and three are operating in stealth mode. Surge 12 is the first cohort under Peak XV’s increased investment ceiling of up to $5 million per startup, up from $3 million previously, according to inc42.com.
The Surge program, initiated in 2019 when Peak XV was operating as Sequoia Capital India & SEA, runs two cohorts annually. It combines seed capital with company-building workshops, community access, and a global curriculum led by experienced operators. Peak XV managing director Rajan Anandan highlighted that the founders in Surge 12 are building companies from first principles, challenging existing norms in their respective fields. The VC firm manages a capital portfolio exceeding $9 billion across 13 funds and has invested in over 400 companies in India and Southeast Asia, inc42.com reported.
The increased investment ceiling to $5 million per startup marks a significant shift in Peak XV’s approach, allowing deeper capital infusion into promising ventures. The firm’s portfolio includes 36 companies that have gone public via IPOs, underscoring its influence in the region’s startup ecosystem. Surge 12’s diverse sector representation reflects broader trends in venture capital focusing on emerging technologies and markets. This cohort’s mix of stealth startups and established sectors like fintech and healthcare aligns with global investment patterns documented by inc42.com.
Peak XV’s Surge 12 cohort launch continues the firm’s commitment to nurturing early-stage startups with substantial capital and operational support. The next Surge cohort is expected in early 2027, maintaining the biannual schedule established since 2019, inc42.com stated.
