US-based WeWork Inc sold a 2.53% stake in WeWork India through open-market transactions worth ₹244.1 crore, according to BSE data. The sale involved 35 lakh shares at ₹697.55 apiece and was executed by WeWork's affiliate 1 Ariel Way Tenant Limited. The stake sale took place yesterday amid a recent surge in WeWork India's share price.
The shares sold by WeWork Inc were acquired by several institutional investors, including Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company, Citigroup, HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company, Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund, and ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund. Motilal Oswal entities purchased 13.6 lakh shares for ₹94.9 crore, while ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund bought 14.2 lakh shares worth ₹99.2 crore. Citigroup Global Markets Mauritius and HDFC each acquired stakes valued at around ₹25 crore. The shares were sold at a 1.4% discount to the stock’s last closing price on Friday.
At the end of June 2026, WeWork Inc held a 14.82% stake in WeWork India, equivalent to 2.05 crore shares. Following this transaction, WeWork has diluted its shareholding by over 17%. The sale comes as WeWork India’s stock has risen more than 43.3% over the past three months and 16.8% year-to-date. Despite this, the stock declined 6.08% in the past week due to a weak Q1 FY27 performance, which included a reported loss of ₹4.1 crore.
The bulk sale by WeWork Inc reflects a strategic move to book profits amid fluctuating market conditions. The transaction was confirmed through BSE data, highlighting significant institutional interest in WeWork India shares during this period.
