Sony’s "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" remained the No. 1 movie in theaters for six consecutive weeks, becoming only the second film this decade to achieve such a streak. The movie collected $18 million over the weekend and has grossed $2.4 billion worldwide since its release, according to studio estimates reported on September 7.
"Brand New Day" has dominated cinemas since late July, following the precedent set by 2022’s "Avatar: The Way of Water," the last film to lead the box office for six straight weeks. Sony projects $23.3 million in revenue for the upcoming four-day Labor Day weekend, underscoring the film’s sustained popularity, according to fortune.com.
The film’s success contributed to Hollywood’s strongest summer box office since the pandemic, with the domestic total reaching $4.6 billion through August 31, a 26.1% increase from 2025. Christopher Nolan’s "The Odyssey" also performed strongly, earning $13 million domestically over the weekend and surpassing $1.63 billion globally, with over $1 billion from overseas sales, the first film to do so since 2009’s "Avatar."
Rentrak forecasts the summer box office season to close at $4.759 billion including the Labor Day weekend, narrowly surpassing the previous record of $4.758 billion set in 2013, marking a significant rebound for the film industry, according to fortune.com.
