Applied Materials announced a $5 billion investment commitment to enhance India’s semiconductor ecosystem over the next decade. The announcement was made by Prabhu Raja, president of the semiconductor products group at Applied Materials, during the SEMICON India 2026 event held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The investment is part of the Applied Materials India Vision 2035 initiative aimed at integrating India’s semiconductor sector into the global supply chain.
The $5 billion will be allocated to three main areas: deepening research and development (R&D) in India, accelerating the semiconductor ecosystem, and fostering local talent. Raja detailed plans for a new 140-acre advanced semiconductor research park featuring cleanroom facilities, engineering expertise, and collaborative R&D with customers and suppliers. The company also aims to expand its India-based supply chain capacity tenfold by 2035, creating opportunities for Indian and global suppliers.
This investment aligns with India’s broader semiconductor ambitions under the Semicon 2.0 program, which recently received Union Cabinet approval for its second phase. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the launch of commercial production at two new semiconductor plants in Mohali and Surat during the same conference. Applied Materials’ commitment supports the government’s goal to establish India as a significant player in the global semiconductor market.
The Applied Materials India Vision 2035 initiative and the $5 billion investment commitment were announced on September 17, 2026, at SEMICON India 2026, marking a major step in India’s semiconductor industry development.
