Bharat Taxi, a new ride-hailing platform, will expand its operations to over 500 cities in India within the next two years, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced. The service has already launched in 14 cities across Gujarat and plans to start operations in seven major cities including Mumbai, Pune, and Kolkata before July 31, according to medianama.com.
The platform began operations in Gujarat cities such as Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara, offering three vehicle categories: two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws, and four-wheelers. Bharat Taxi has signed memoranda of understanding with several local authorities and organizations, including the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation and Airports Authority of India units in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot. The service currently has 700,000 drivers registered and has served 3.7 million customers, medianama.com reports.
Bharat Taxi’s entry into the market has prompted competitors to reduce fares immediately in cities where it operates, addressing concerns about fare hikes. The company’s partnerships with municipal and transport bodies aim to integrate its services with public infrastructure, potentially reshaping urban mobility in India. This expansion comes amid growing demand for diverse and affordable ride options in the country’s tier-2 and tier-3 cities, according to medianama.com.
The next phase will see Bharat Taxi commence services in seven major cities by July 31, with a broader rollout planned to reach over 500 cities within two years, as stated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the launch event.
