Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) is piloting an ecommerce model to deliver groceries, FMCG products, household essentials, and consumer durables alongside LPG cylinders in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Select LPG dealerships are being converted into fulfilment points or dark stores, while BPCL’s In&Out convenience stores at petrol pumps stock and fulfil orders. Customers can place orders through BPCL’s app and receive products with their LPG cylinders, according to inc42.com.
The pilot leverages BPCL’s existing network of petrol pumps, convenience stores, and LPG dealerships to expand its non-fuel business. The company has upgraded its cafe formats, retail offerings, customer amenities, and loyalty programmes in FY26 to transform fuel stations into mobility and lifestyle destinations. Despite the pilot showing promise, volumes have not yet met initial expectations amid competition from established ecommerce and quick commerce platforms, inc42.com reported.
BPCL is also developing a payment gateway to integrate with its HelloBPCL app, enabling customers to make payments seamlessly. This move aims to complement the ecommerce pilot and enhance the customer experience. The initiative reflects BPCL’s broader strategy to diversify revenue streams beyond fuel sales by leveraging its physical infrastructure and digital platforms, positioning itself against existing ecommerce players in the market.
The pilot is ongoing in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, with BPCL yet to disclose plans for wider rollout. The company has not responded to queries about the pilot’s progress or future expansion. The payment gateway development is underway, expected to launch alongside the app to facilitate transactions, according to inc42.com.
