The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) staged a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10 against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, according to livemint.com. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke traveled from Mumbai to Delhi early that morning to participate, with co-conveners Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das also joining the demonstration.
The protest was organized to highlight allegations that the Chief Election Commissioner tampered with voter lists under the pretext of the SIR exercise and bypassed his colleagues to modify Form 6, a key voter registration document. The Aam Aadmi Party and several Left parties, including CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML), RSP, and the All India Forward Bloc, also took part. Delhi Police denied permission for the protest, citing potential law-and-order issues and inconvenience to residents.
Security measures disrupted travel in the national capital region, with two key Delhi stations on the Namo Bharat corridor—Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar—closed from the night of October 9 until 10 pm on October 10. Additionally, entry and exit gates at 45 Delhi Metro stations were restricted, and 254 train services were canceled between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10. Commuters were advised to avoid non-essential travel during the protest period.
The protest underscored widespread concerns over the electoral roll revision process and the role of the Chief Election Commissioner. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation confirmed the station closures and travel disruptions, emphasizing the impact on commuters between Meerut and Delhi on October 10.
