Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) handled 38.5 million passengers in the first half of fiscal year 2026-27, marking a 5% increase from 36.7 million in the same period last year, according to livemint.com. The rise includes 28.1 million domestic and 10.4 million international travelers. This is the highest-ever first-half passenger traffic recorded at the airport.
The increase in passenger traffic coincides with a 6.9% year-on-year rise in Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) to 233,331 during April-September, as per data from GMR Airports, which operates IGIA through Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). The airport had faced operational challenges last year due to airspace restrictions and runway upgradation work, which had temporarily affected flight movements and passenger numbers.
The growth at IGIA reflects a recovery from the previous year's decline caused by geopolitical developments and infrastructure upgrades. The airport handled a total of 78.7 million passengers in fiscal 2025-26. The sustained increase in both domestic and international travel highlights the airport’s role as a key aviation hub in India, supporting expanding air connectivity and economic activity.
IGIA recorded an average monthly passenger traffic of around 6.5 million in the first half of the fiscal year, as stated in a recent regulatory filing by GMR Airports. This milestone underscores the airport’s capacity to manage growing demand despite earlier disruptions.
