Delhi Police has mobilised over 15,000 personnel along with around 200 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and 100 National Security Guard (NSG) commandos to secure the BRICS Summit in the city. The extensive security and traffic management plan was put in place ahead of the summit, which is taking place in New Delhi this week, according to livemint.com.
The deployment includes a combination of law-and-order and operational duties handled by the CAPF companies, supported by the NSG commandos who are tasked with counter-terrorism and specialised security roles. Delhi Police has also implemented traffic diversions and heightened alert levels around key locations such as the Bharat Mandapam venue to ensure smooth conduct of the event, the report said.
The BRICS Summit, which brings together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, requires significant security arrangements given the high-profile nature of the attendees. The scale of deployment reflects the government’s focus on maintaining order and safety amid large-scale international gatherings. This level of security is consistent with previous major events hosted in the capital, underscoring the importance of the summit on the global stage.
Security personnel were seen on high alert near the summit venue on September 10, with multiple checkpoints and patrols active across the city.
