Google launches Gemini-powered chatbot for ads in India

Google has introduced a new Gemini-powered chatbot called Business Agent for Leads, embedded directly within Search ads to help Indian brands convert customers.

Google has introduced a new Gemini-powered chatbot called Business Agent for Leads, embedded directly within Search ads to help Indian brands convert customers. Launched in early July 2026, this AI agent allows users to chat and ask questions about products and brands without leaving the Search page, aiming to generate qualified leads, according to medianama.com.

The Business Agent for Leads is trained on an advertiser’s own website and integrates seamlessly into Google Search ads. This tool addresses challenges faced by companies like Shiksha, which had to alter its business model after Google’s AI began answering user queries directly, reducing website traffic. Google also announced that advertisers must disclose when generative AI is used in ads, with a new panel appearing on Search, YouTube, and Discover, as detailed by Keerat Sharma, Google’s VP of Ads Privacy and Safety.

This development comes as 93% of user journeys in India start on Google and YouTube, based on an Ipsos survey commissioned by Google. The chatbot’s integration into ads reflects a shift towards zero-click interactions, where users engage with brands directly on the search results page. This move could reshape digital advertising strategies in India by enhancing lead generation without redirecting users away from Google platforms.

Google’s update was announced on July 9, 2026, with the new AI disclosure panel rolling out alongside the Business Agent for Leads. This marks a notable step in Google’s use of AI to deepen its advertising business in India, aiming to improve conversion rates and transparency for users.
