Hyundai Motor India plans to invest an additional ₹4,000 crore in Maharashtra by 2030 to nearly double the production capacity of its Pune manufacturing plant to 3.2 lakh units annually, the company said. The facility currently has an annual capacity of 1.7 lakh units and has already received ₹7,000 crore in investment, Hyundai Motor India CEO Tarun Garg told reporters.
The Pune plant was officially inaugurated in a ceremony attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other state officials. Garg said the ₹4,000 crore investment is part of Hyundai Motor Group's broader $15.5 billion investment strategy for India through 2032. Vendors associated with Hyundai Motor India have also invested ₹4,600 crore in Maharashtra, supporting the company’s expansion plans.
Hyundai’s planned investment aims to position India as a key market for its future growth and expansion into emerging markets. The doubling of Pune plant capacity aligns with the group’s strategy to enhance manufacturing capabilities and meet rising demand. The ₹7,000 crore already invested in Maharashtra reflects Hyundai’s commitment to the region, complementing the vendor investments that strengthen the local supply chain.
Hyundai Motor Group announced the $15.5 billion investment plan for India on the day before the Pune plant inauguration. The company’s target to increase annual production capacity to 3.2 lakh units by 2030 marks a significant scale-up in its manufacturing footprint in Maharashtra, supported by both direct and vendor investments totaling over ₹11,600 crore.
