India Post and Qatar Post launch UPI-based remittance service

India Post and Qatar Post launched a UPI-based remittance service called PosTransfer on August 15, enabling people in Qatar to send money directly to UPI-linked bank accounts in India. The service allows transfers between QR10 (about Rs 262) and QR4,000 (about Rs 1.05 lakh) through participating Qatar Post outlets, with funds credited almost immediately, according to medianama.com.

The PosTransfer service was developed through a collaboration involving the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP), NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), India Post, and Qatar Post. Users can pay using cash or cards at Qatar Post branches. Sandeep Kumar, chargé d’affaires at the Indian Embassy in Doha, highlighted that the service offers an alternative for workers who may not use mobile banking to send digital remittances via physical post offices, as reported by medianama.com.

The Qatar-India remittance corridor is significant due to the large Indian community in Qatar, which numbers over 800,000 people. According to a May 2026 analysis by Mahad Manpower, this corridor accounted for an estimated $5.8 billion in remittances. The introduction of PosTransfer adds a new channel for these transactions, complementing existing digital and mobile banking options, medianama.com noted.

Customers can access the PosTransfer service at Qatar Post branches starting August 15, 2026, with immediate crediting of funds to UPI-linked accounts in India, confirmed by the Indian Embassy in Doha via medianama.com.
