The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved 31 new electronics manufacturing projects under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), totaling ₹6,844 crore. Additionally, MeitY cleared a ₹1,033 crore capacity expansion for Wipro Global, bringing the total fresh clearance to ₹7,877 crore. These approvals were announced in 2026 and aim to boost the electronics component manufacturing sector across India, according to inc42.com.
These 31 projects span 10 Indian states, with Tamil Nadu leading with seven approvals, followed by Maharashtra and Haryana with six each, and Karnataka with five. The scheme, launched in April 2025, has now approved 106 applications over its lifetime. Capital goods projects received the highest allocation with five applications totaling ₹1,451 crore, while camera module manufacturing worth ₹740 crore was the second-largest single approval. Other significant categories include display modules, anode materials, and enclosures. The fresh approvals are expected to create 9,588 jobs in the sector, inc42.com reported.
The ECMS aims to strengthen India’s electronics component manufacturing capabilities, reducing import dependence and boosting domestic production. The cumulative project pipeline is projected to generate ₹82,243 crore in production value. Key beneficiaries include Kaynes Technology, Dixon Technologies, Wipro, and Tata Electronics. This initiative aligns with India’s broader push to enhance its electronics manufacturing infrastructure and compete globally in the sector, according to inc42.com.
The scheme’s approvals mark a continued expansion of India’s electronics manufacturing base, with 106 projects sanctioned since April 2025. The latest clearances, including the ₹1,033 crore capacity expansion for Wipro Global, underscore the government’s commitment to scaling up production and employment in this strategic industry, inc42.com noted.
