At the Global Fintech Fest 2026 held September 8-11 at Mumbai’s Jio World Centre, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) unveiled AiNxt, an open-source agentic AI platform, and introduced open-source Android ATMs that function as digital banking units. The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who highlighted fintech industry goals including expanding UPI globally and recognising agentic AI as a key frontier, according to medianama.com.
NPCI’s Android ATMs can open accounts, process loan applications, accept cheque deposits, and instantly issue RuPay cards and merchant UPI QR codes, reducing onboarding time from weeks to minutes. Nine lenders, including State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and Slice Small Finance Bank, are piloting these machines with manufacturers Hitachi Payment Services, Perto India, and Vortex Engineering. Additionally, NPCI launched AiNxt OS, Code, CLI, and Enterprise components under a “bring your own models” framework for building and deploying AI agents. The organisation also introduced AtOM, a platform for creating signed, machine-readable audit trails for UPI integration and partner onboarding (medianama.com).
These launches reflect India’s push to integrate advanced technologies like agentic AI and digital banking infrastructure into its fintech ecosystem. The Android ATMs aim to streamline banking access, especially in underserved areas, while AiNxt positions NPCI at the forefront of AI adoption in financial services. The involvement of major banks in piloting the ATMs signals potential for wide-scale deployment. The AtOM platform addresses compliance and auditability challenges in UPI operations, enhancing transparency and security in digital payments (medianama.com).
The Global Fintech Fest 2026 continues through September 11, with NPCI’s initiatives expected to influence fintech innovation and adoption in India’s banking and payments sectors over the coming year.
