The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) unveiled a Unified Ticketing Platform (UTP) and expanded RuPay credit card acceptance on UPI to international markets at the Global Fintech Festival (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai. The UTP integrates urban transit and cultural heritage ticketing into a single digital framework, while RuPay credit cards on UPI will enable payments in France, Mauritius, the UAE, and the US, announced RBI executive director Gunveer Singh.
The UTP, developed under the National Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL) and hosted by the National Ticketing Services Limited (NTSL), standardises ticketing across urban transit systems and heritage sites on Bharat Connect. It uses dynamic and static offline-capable QR codes to ensure instant ticketing without network delays. Pilots are underway with Chennai Metro Rail Limited and the Archaeological Survey of India for metro rides and monument entries respectively. The RuPay credit card on UPI allows users to scan foreign QR codes or pay international ecommerce merchants directly via UPI apps linked to RuPay credit cards, showing live exchange rates and forex markup fees.
These initiatives mark a significant step in expanding India's digital payments infrastructure and internationalising the UPI ecosystem. The UTP aims to simplify ticketing and reconciliation for merchants and commuters, while the RuPay credit card on UPI extends India's linked-credit payments beyond domestic borders. This follows a series of UPI-related launches at GFF 2026, positioning India as a leader in integrated digital payments for both domestic and global users.
The UTP is currently in pilot phase with Chennai Metro Rail Limited and the Archaeological Survey of India, while the RuPay credit card on UPI service will initially roll out in France, Mauritius, the UAE, and the US, according to inc42.com.
