The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating allegations of embezzlement of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple submitted its preliminary inquiry report to the Uttar Pradesh government on June 23, officials told news agency ANI. The probe focuses on irregularities in the handling of funds collected at the temple, a major religious site in India.
The SIT was formed to examine claims of misappropriation of the donations received by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which manages the temple. The Trust has denied any wrongdoing, stating that all donations are processed through strict procedures involving counting, verification, and secure deposit mechanisms. The report was handed over to the Yogi Adityanath-led state government for further action.
This investigation comes amid growing public scrutiny over the management of funds at high-profile religious institutions in India. The Ayodhya Ram Temple, a significant cultural and religious landmark, has attracted large donations from devotees nationwide. Allegations of financial irregularities at such sites can impact public trust and raise questions about transparency and governance in religious trusts.
Following the submission of the SIT's preliminary report, the Uttar Pradesh government will review the findings to determine the next steps. The report marks the first official update on the probe since the allegations surfaced, highlighting the government's focus on ensuring accountability in the management of temple donations.
