Vedanta Limited declared an interim dividend of ₹5 per equity share for the financial year 2026-27, amounting to a total payout of ₹1,955 crore. This dividend announcement on October 8 marks the company’s first since its corporate demerger in May 2026, which resulted in the creation of multiple separately listed entities.
The board of directors approved the interim dividend of ₹5 per share with a face value of ₹1 each, as stated in the company’s exchange filing. The payout contrasts sharply with the ₹34 per share dividend declared last year. The change stems from Vedanta’s June 2026 demerger, which split the original conglomerate into Vedanta Aluminium Metal, Vedanta Power, Vedanta Oil and Gas, Vedanta Iron and Steel, and the residual Vedanta Limited.
The demerger fundamentally altered Vedanta’s dividend structure by fracturing the conglomerate into distinct entities, each with its own financials and dividend policies. Seema Srivastava, Senior Research Analyst at SMC Global Securities, explained that this restructuring is the primary reason for the optical reduction in dividend per share from ₹34 last year to ₹5 this year. The move aligns with market practices for separately listed companies to manage payouts independently.
Vedanta’s interim dividend announcement on October 8, 2026, follows the company’s May demerger and represents a strategic shift in its capital allocation. The total interim dividend payout of ₹1,955 crore reflects the company’s current financial position post-restructuring, as per the exchange filing.
