Vedanta Limited's Q2 FY27 results reveal varied operational performance across its businesses, with a record aluminium production of 649 KT and alumina output rising 37% year-over-year to 895 KT, according to livemint.com. The company's port operations also achieved a first-half cargo discharge volume of 4,185 KT, up 32% year-over-year, highlighting strong growth in some segments.

The Zinc International segment saw a 12% decline in mined metal to 53 KT, while the Gamsberg Phase 2 project was commissioned in Q2, with commercial volumes expected from October 2026. The ferrochrome vertical expanded output by 26% to 24 KT after restarting the Kalarangiatta mine. Domestic copper sales at Silvassa increased 16% to 52 KT, but international copper rod sales at Fujairah dropped 74% to 6 KT due to the Strait of Hormuz closure.

Market experts emphasize that long-term investment in Vedanta should focus on volume growth, structural cost advantages, backward integration, and return on invested capital. The mixed results underscore operational challenges in some areas, such as Zinc International and international copper sales, while other segments like aluminium and port operations demonstrate strong structural growth potential compared to peers.

Vedanta's Gamsberg Phase 2 commissioning and the expected commercial volumes starting October 2026 mark a key development for the company’s zinc business. The next quarterly update will provide further clarity on how these operational changes impact overall performance.
