Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for global tech firms, financial institutions, and telecom operators to collaborate on a comprehensive framework to combat cyber fraud and deep fakes. Speaking at the India Mobile Congress 2026, Modi emphasized the importance of securing mobile phones and networks to build trust among users communicating or making payments via phones, highlighting the need for an ironclad security framework.
Modi urged the GSM Association (GSMA) and global telecom operators to establish a mechanism that can prevent cyber fraud before it affects the public. He offered India’s expertise in fighting cybercrime, noting that Indian authorities have accumulated significant knowledge in this area. Modi also pointed out that the discussions at the tenth edition of the India Mobile Congress would shape the telecom landscape for the next decade in India and globally.
India has faced increasing cyber fraud incidents, with losses amounting to ₹3,588.2 crore in recent years. Modi stressed that since cyber fraud operations are largely borderless, international cooperation is essential to address the issue effectively. His call for a global framework aligns with India’s ongoing efforts to protect citizens from cyber attacks and fraud, positioning the country as a knowledgeable player in cybersecurity.
The India Mobile Congress 2026, where Modi delivered his remarks, serves as a platform for stakeholders to discuss the future of telecom and digital security. The event’s outcomes are expected to influence policy and industry standards internationally, reinforcing India’s role in global cybersecurity dialogues.
