The Reserve Bank of India announced an auction of Government of India Treasury Bills totaling ₹23,000 crore scheduled for October 21, 2026. The auction includes 91-day and 182-day bills worth ₹8,000 crore each, and 364-day bills worth ₹7,000 crore. Settlement for the auction will take place on October 22, 2026, according to rbi.org.in.
Bids for the auction must be submitted electronically via the RBI’s Core Banking Solution (E-Kuber system) between 10:30 am and 11:30 am on the auction date. The auction will use a price-based multiple price method. Eligible participants include state governments, union territories with legislatures, provident funds, designated foreign central banks, and other specified institutions. Retail investors can participate on a non-competitive basis through the Retail Direct portal, with allocation capped at 5 percent of the notified amount.
This auction is part of the RBI’s regular debt management operations to meet government financing needs. Treasury bills are short-term government securities that help manage liquidity in the financial system. The notified amount of ₹23,000 crore is in line with previous auctions and reflects ongoing efforts to maintain stable market conditions. The non-competitive scheme encourages wider participation from individual investors, enhancing market depth.
The auction will be governed by the General Notification F.No.4(2)-B(W&M)/2018 dated March 26, 2025, as amended. Competitive bids must be submitted within the specified one-hour window on October 21, with settlement occurring the following day, October 22, 2026.
