Reddit announced it will discontinue support for RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, and close public access to its application programming interface (API) by March 2027. The platform made the announcement on September 30 via posts on r/modnews and r/redditdev, setting key deadlines for developers and users relying on these services.
The company cited large-scale scraping and automated abuse as reasons for ending RSS feeds and public API access. Starting October 31, Reddit will stop accepting new public API requests, followed by the RSS feed shutdown on November 13. By January 12, 2027, it will begin cutting off unregistered apps and users, with full public API closure scheduled for March 2027. Moderators using RSS for alerts can switch to Discord Relay, an app on Reddit's Developer Platform.
Reddit is encouraging third-party apps and bots to migrate to its Developer Platform, Devvit, where it hosts apps directly. The platform launched a $1 million App Migration Program, offering $1,000 to each eligible app that migrates, along with free hosting and technical support. Over 14,000 apps and bots have registered for this program so far, highlighting the scale of the transition and Reddit's efforts to control data access amid rising AI bot activity.
The migration funding registration closes on November 30, 2026, marking a critical deadline for developers seeking support. After March 2027, public API access will end for all remaining apps and users who have not engaged with Reddit's new platform, signaling a major shift in how Reddit data will be accessed and used.
