India’s spacetech startups have raised $252.9 million in funding so far this year, nearly doubling the sector’s total from 2025, according to inc42.com. Skyroot Aerospace led the momentum by becoming India’s first spacetech unicorn in May after securing a $60 million round. The startup also achieved the milestone of placing a rocket into orbit with its Vikram-1 mission and is preparing for a $200 million funding round.

The sector’s growth accelerated with Temasek-backed Pixxel raising $100 million in a Series C round, marking the largest funding round for an Indian spacetech startup. This surge in capital inflows is supported by government initiatives such as the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), which is deploying capital from its ₹1,600 crore Antariksh Venture Capital Fund. Additionally, the ₹1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) fund allocated nearly ₹834 crore to spacetech startups in its first cohort.

The increase in funding and government backing reflects a broader push to commercialize India’s spacetech ecosystem, which has moved beyond experimentation to demonstrate tangible achievements. Skyroot’s successful Vikram-1 mission and Pixxel’s hyperspectral imaging technology highlight the sector’s potential. The funding rounds this year position India’s spacetech startups among the fastest-growing segments in the country’s startup landscape, with growing investor confidence.

GalaxEye recently became the first Indian startup to secure a significant contract in the sector, further signaling the commercial viability of spacetech ventures. The sector’s progress is underscored by the combined government and private investments totaling over $250 million in 2026, marking a critical phase for India’s space technology ambitions.
