LightFury Games has added former India captain Rohit Sharma as an investor ahead of the phased closed beta rollout of its mobile cricket game, eCricket, scheduled for September 2026, according to inc42.com. Sharma will also feature as an officially licensed player in the game. The Bengaluru-based gaming studio did not disclose the size or terms of Sharma’s investment.
Rohit Sharma becomes the eighth marquee cricketer to invest in LightFury Games, joining MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Tilak Varma, and Sai Sudharsan. The startup announced the investment as it prepares to launch eCricket’s closed beta, which will allow early users to access the game and provide feedback ahead of a wider launch later this year. More than 300,000 users have signed up for eCricket, and its latest teaser video crossed 1 million views over the weekend.
eCricket aims to offer competitive gameplay with cricket physics, high-quality visuals, licensed players, and social multiplayer features. The game will include an Ultimate Squad mode where users can assemble teams from a roster of over 700 officially licensed cricketers worldwide. Former Indian cricketer and television personality Navjot Singh Sidhu will feature as one of the official commentators, with plans to add more commentary voices. LightFury’s goal is to build defining game franchises from India for a global audience.
The phased closed beta rollout of eCricket is set to begin in September 2026, providing early users access to the game for feedback and refinement. This trial phase is a key step before the game’s wider launch later this year, marking a significant milestone for LightFury Games and its investor lineup.
