ThinkMetal, a Chennai-based metal additive manufacturing startup, raised ₹27 crore (around $2.8 million) in a funding round led by India Angel Network’s VC fund IAN Alpha Fund. Other participants included deeptech-focused VC 3i Partners. The fresh capital will support the startup’s commercialisation efforts and product development, the company announced this week.
Founded in 2021 by CEO Sabyasachi Ghosh and CTO Arushi Sharma, ThinkMetal develops industrial printing systems that manufacture tools such as moulds, dies, jigs, and fixtures. Its flagship SistemT1 machine uses metal fused additive manufacturing, building components layer by layer from wound metal feedstock, followed by debinding and sintering to achieve strength. The hardware integrates proprietary FuseX materials and Thinkware software to accelerate production.
ThinkMetal claims its technology can produce metal parts up to 10 times faster and at half the cost of traditional manufacturing methods. The startup plans to use the funding to expand its product stack, increase the range of materials it utilises, strengthen R&D capabilities, and fuel hiring. The investment marks a key step in moving from technology development to commercialisation in the industrial 3D printing sector.
CEO Sabyasachi Ghosh said the capital will help accelerate adoption across industrial applications. ThinkMetal’s next milestones include scaling production and expanding its team to support commercial rollout, according to the company statement.
