A recent study by Productrise found that Google’s AI Mode displays the same products at prices 21.6% higher on average compared to traditional Google search. The analysis covered over 2 million product listings across more than 100,000 search engine results pages (SERPs) and AI Mode responses between August 9 and 31, 2026.
The study ran identical shopping queries simultaneously through both Google AI Mode and traditional search. When the exact same product appeared in both results, the price shown in AI Mode was consistently higher. Additionally, only 1.28% of products appearing in traditional search also appeared in AI Mode for the same query on the same day, highlighting a significant difference in product selection and pricing between the two modes, according to productrise.app.
This pricing discrepancy is notable given Google's dominant position in online shopping search. The study also found that when considering all products shown, AI Mode listings were 49% more expensive overall. The findings suggest that Google’s AI Mode may prioritize higher-priced products, which could impact consumer purchasing decisions and market competition in e-commerce search results.
The study’s data, collected over 23 days in August 2026, provides a detailed comparison of pricing and product overlap between Google AI Mode and traditional search.
