Google has chosen four Indian startups—Terrastack, Varaha Climate, Farmers for Forests, and Climitra Carbon—to participate in its inaugural AI-focused accelerator, Google DeepMind Accelerator: AI for the Planet (APAC). The program, starting this week with a bootcamp in Singapore, includes 16 startups from the Asia Pacific region and will run for three months, providing access to Google's AI stack, technical support, and expert mentorship, according to inc42.com.
The accelerator aims to help startups, nonprofits, and research teams develop AI solutions to address urgent environmental challenges. Participants will work with frontier AI models such as AnthroKrishi, ForestCast, AlphaEarth Foundations, SpeciesNet, and Perch. Google APAC regional sustainability head Spencer Low and developer ecosystems head Sami Kizibash highlighted the program's focus on scaling sustainability innovations through advanced AI technologies in a blog post dated September 7, inc42.com reported.
This initiative is part of Google's broader climate efforts in India, which include scaling its AI-powered Solar API to 300 million rooftops to automate solar surveys and layouts. Google also signed a four-year agreement with climate tech startup Mitti Labs to supply one million carbon credits through 2030. These efforts underscore the growing role of AI in addressing climate and sustainability challenges in India and the wider APAC region, inc42.com noted.
The accelerator program officially kicked off with a hands-on bootcamp in Singapore this week, marking the start of a three-month engagement where the selected startups will receive tailored support to advance their AI-driven environmental solutions, inc42.com stated.
