Climate tech startup Mitti Labs has entered a four-year agreement with Google to supply 1 million carbon credits by 2030, according to inc42.com. The deal, described as one of the largest nature-based offtakes to date, covers verified carbon credits generated primarily from Mitti Labs’ rice farming projects across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. Payments will be made upon delivery, with no upfront financing involved.
The agreement spans from 2027 to 2030 and involves a fixed contractual offtake of the carbon credits. Mitti Labs currently manages programs covering more than 100,000 hectares in India. Cofounder Xavier Laguarta Soler said the deal validates the quality and scalability of their projects and will support expansion across India and Southeast Asia. Google’s chief sustainability officer, Kate Brandt, highlighted the environmental benefits of Mitti Labs’ approach, including methane emission reductions and water conservation.
This partnership underscores growing corporate commitments to sustainability and carbon offsetting through nature-based solutions. Mitti Labs’ focus on rice farming projects aligns with efforts to reduce methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas. The deal with Google places Mitti Labs among notable climate tech startups securing large-scale carbon credit agreements, reflecting increasing demand for verified offsets in the tech sector and beyond.
Mitti Labs’ programs currently cover over 100,000 hectares, with the carbon credits to be delivered between 2027 and 2030, as per the agreement with Google, inc42.com reports.
