The Bay Area secured 51.5% of all US venture capital invested in AI startups and 53.2% in B2B startups from July 2025 through June 2026, according to Carta’s Startup Ecosystem Leaderboard. This amounted to $51.3 billion invested in companies headquartered in the metro area, outpacing New York’s 18% share and Boston’s 8.7% across all startup categories during the same period.
Carta’s data highlights the Bay Area’s dominance in the current funding cycle, particularly in AI and B2B sectors. While the region accounted for 41.3% of total startup capital, its share rises sharply when filtered for AI and B2B investments. New York ranks second with 16% of AI and 19% of B2B venture dollars, while Boston holds third place with approximately 8.3% in AI and 8.4% in B2B funding.
The concentration of venture capital in these two metros is pronounced, with the Bay Area and New York together capturing roughly 67.5% of AI funding and 72.2% of B2B funding nationwide. This level of concentration underscores the Bay Area’s continued role as the leading hub for startups in these sectors, attracting nearly twice the capital of the entire New York ecosystem combined across all categories.
