Global investment firm KKR has signed definitive agreements to acquire a minority stake in BookMyShow, the Indian entertainment and ticketing platform, as of August 19. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed. This investment aims to support BookMyShow’s expansion beyond movie ticketing into live entertainment, including concerts, sports, and other events, according to livemint.com.
The stake acquisition will be made through funds managed by KKR, with Avendus Capital serving as BookMyShow’s exclusive financial adviser and Trilegal acting as its legal adviser. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals. BookMyShow was founded in 2007 by Ashish Hemrajani, Parikshit Dar, and Rajesh Balpande and operates across India and several international markets, including Singapore and the UAE, inc42.com reported.
BookMyShow has raised $224.5 million to date from investors such as Elevation Capital, Accel, Stripes Group, Network18, and TPG, which led a $100 million Series D round in 2019. KKR’s investment comes amid intensifying competition in India’s online ticketing and out-of-home entertainment market, where players like District have expanded aggressively after acquiring Paytm’s entertainment ticketing business for ₹2,048 crore in 2024, inc42.com noted.
The deal adds another major institutional investor to BookMyShow’s shareholder base, reinforcing its position as it scales its live entertainment division, BookMyShow Live. The company’s next strategic moves will likely be influenced by regulatory approvals and market dynamics in India’s evolving entertainment sector, according to livemint.com.
