The Centre appointed senior bureaucrat Prakash Rajpurohit as Deputy Election Commissioner on Saturday, as part of a broader reshuffle involving 27 civil servants at joint secretary-level and equivalent positions. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the changes, with Rajpurohit set to hold the position until April 8, 2030, succeeding Sanjay Kumar, according to an order from the Personnel Ministry.

Prakash Rajpurohit is a 2010-batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Rajasthan cadre. He holds a BTech degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi and hails from Barmer, Rajasthan. The reshuffle also included the appointment of Vivek Khare, a 1996-batch Indian Telecom Service officer, as Joint Secretary at the National Testing Agency. Khare has served as Director at the Central Vigilance Commission since June 2019 and previously worked at the Election Commission of India.

This administrative reshuffle reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to place experienced officers in key positions across various departments. Other notable appointments include Ravi Shankar, Chittaranjan Dash, P Manoj Kumar, and Abhishek Bhagotia as Joint Secretaries in the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Mohammed Y Safirulla K and Ritu Sharma in the Department of Health and Family Welfare. Such changes aim to strengthen governance by leveraging the expertise of senior civil servants.

The personnel order issued by the Personnel Ministry formalized the appointments, with Rajpurohit’s tenure as Deputy Election Commissioner extending through April 8, 2030, marking a significant administrative tenure for overseeing election-related functions.
