Electric two-wheeler (E2W) registrations in India rose 12.2% month-on-month in September, reaching 2.07 lakh units, according to Vahan data reported by inc42.com. This reversed a two-month decline and nearly doubled the 1.05 lakh units registered in September 2025. The increase reflects a strengthening electric mobility market ahead of the festive season.
The top three traditional OEMs—TVS Motor, Bajaj, and Hero MotoCorp—accounted for about 61% of September registrations, each posting month-on-month growth. New-age players showed mixed results: Ather Electric registrations increased 4.9%, Ola Electric declined 3.5%, and BGauss remained flat. The overall EV registrations in India rose 64.6% year-on-year to 3.15 lakh units in September, with E2Ws driving most of this growth.
This rebound highlights the competitive landscape of India’s electric two-wheeler market, where established manufacturers are expanding their EV portfolios and distribution networks. The growth contrasts with the mixed performance of newer entrants like Ola and BGauss. The surge in registrations ahead of the festive season suggests increased inventory stocking and promotional efforts by automakers and dealers.
The latest Vahan data revised August’s E2W registrations upward to 1.84 lakh units from an earlier estimate of 1.72 lakh units, indicating stronger momentum in the sector. The next official registration update is expected in early November, which will provide further insight into market trends during the festive period.
