The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) unveiled a Face Authentication Software Development Kit (SDK) and a testing environment in its Aadhaar sandbox at the Global Fintech Fest 2026. The SDK integrates AI-based liveness detection and instant authentication directly into existing applications, eliminating the need for users to switch apps during Aadhaar face authentication, according to medianama.com.
Sanjeev Yadav, Director at UIDAI, described the SDK as a major shift from external dependencies to an embedded, lightweight library. He explained that the original face authentication, launched in 2021, required users to download a separate APK, which caused friction and user drop-offs. The new SDK addresses this by enabling authentication within an organisation’s own app, enhancing usability and reducing friction, Yadav said.
This development is significant as it improves the user experience of Aadhaar face authentication, which is a critical digital identity verification method in India. By embedding the SDK into existing applications, organisations can streamline authentication processes, potentially increasing adoption and efficiency. The Aadhaar sandbox allows developers to test their authentication software before deployment, supporting innovation in the fintech and digital identity sectors.
The Aadhaar sandbox and face authentication SDK were officially launched at the Global Fintech Fest 2026, providing developers with tools to integrate and test Aadhaar-based face authentication seamlessly within their applications.
