The Reserve Bank of India processed 16,844 applications under its Citizen’s Charter during September 2026, completing 99.9% of these within the stipulated timeline. The central bank received 17,200 new applications that month, with 2,666 applications still pending at the end of September, according to an official RBI report.
The RBI began September with 3,011 pending applications and, after accounting for 701 applications referred back for additional information, handled a total of 19,510 applications. Of the processed applications, 16,822 were completed within the timeline, while 22 were processed beyond the timeline. Pending applications included 2,646 within the timeline and 20 beyond it, with some awaiting inputs from external agencies or still under process.
Function-wise, the RBI processed applications across various areas including banking services, currency management, debt management, and foreign exchange. The highest volume was in currency management with 7,351 applications received and 6,731 processed. Foreign exchange management had 2,364 applications, with 1,256 processed. The data reflects the RBI’s ongoing efforts to maintain service efficiency and transparency under its Citizen’s Charter framework.
The RBI’s monthly report highlights that 99.2% of pending applications were within the timeline at the end of September, with only 0.8% delayed. The central bank continues to monitor and review service delivery to banks, governments, and the public, ensuring adherence to its Citizen’s Charter commitments.
