ICICI Bank's credit card portfolio declined 9.7% year-on-year to Rs 53,091 crore as of September 30, 2026, the lender said. The portfolio also fell 0.2% sequentially from Rs 53,206 crore in June 2026, reflecting the bank's strategy to exit risky and unprofitable segments while focusing on quality customers and profitable growth, according to bfsi.economictimes.indiatimes.com.
The sharper yearly decline was partly due to the base effect from the previous year's festive season, which saw higher spends. Sandeep Batra, Executive Director at ICICI Bank, said the bank continues to onboard quality customers and drive profitable spends while exiting riskier segments. Around 70% of the credit card portfolio is to existing customers, and about 85% is to salaried individuals, highlighting the focus on stable borrower segments.
Despite the decline in credit card assets, ICICI Bank's overall retail and rural portfolio grew 14.8% year-on-year and 3.2% quarter-on-quarter. Batra noted that profitability in the credit card segment remains healthy and has improved due to the lower exposure to riskier customers. This approach aligns with the bank's broader strategy to maintain risk-calibrated profitable growth across all product segments.
ICICI Bank's credit card portfolio stood at Rs 53,091 crore at the end of September 2026, down from Rs 53,206 crore in June 2026, as the bank prioritizes quality over volume in its credit card business, according to bfsi.economictimes.indiatimes.com.
